Designing and planting your vegetable garden
Probably the most challenging aspect of vegetable gardening is understanding what to plant, how much, and when. Anyone who's tried vegetable gardening is most likely familiar with problems and unintended consequences such as:
- plant location, spacing and thinning issues, resulting in crowded, unhealthy conditions
- weeds, slugs and other pests
- not knowing how much or when to water
- not knowing where to find the best plants and seeds: the tastiest heirloom varieties, organic seed, and plants adapted to your specific climate
- planting too much or too little
- problems trying to grow organically
At Verdura Culinary Gardens, our goal is to help you be successful as an organic vegetable gardener. We can help you in several ways:
Designing, planting and caring for your garden
Whether you have Verdura set you up with a new garden or work with existing raised beds, we can help you have a successful 2010 season. We offer a free, no obligation on-site consultation to evaluate your garden site. Once your garden frames or containers are set up and ready to plant, we provide you with a customized year-round garden planting plan, based on your input from our Garden Preferences Evaluation. Then, we agree on a planting and maintenance schedule, and show up at regular intervals to plant, maintain and harvest your garden. Our Garden Grow program includes all plants and seeds, soil testing and amendments, and any needed pest control throughout the growing season to ensure your success. You can participate as much or as little as you like throughout the season.
Gardening lessons: Learning to do it on your own
Sign up for Verdura's Garden Grow program, and the gardening lessons are free! We will schedule our regular maintenance visits at a convenient time for you, and will teach you to garden as we go. These hands-on, private gardening lessons will take you through an entire planting season, teaching you how and when to plant, how to space plants and seeds, organic pest and disease control, soil fertility, when to harvest, and much more.
Garden design and planning for more experienced gardeners
Are you a green thumb? Even experienced gardeners struggle with vegetable garden planning. Verdura can help by providing a year-round garden planting plan that maps out exactly what to plant, how much, and when, based on your family's preferences.
