Growing Potatoes
Growing potatoes in containers? Absolutely! In fact, they thrive in our extra-deep frames and containers, which increase productivity and make harvesting a lot easier than digging down into the ground. These potato gardens, which range from just a few square feet each to 40 square feet, are a particular favorite of clients with kids, who enjoy harvesting their favorite vegetable as the prize in a garden treasure hunt.
Potatoes are easy to grow in our climate and, grown in raised beds, are less susceptible to many of the diseases common to this plant. In 2009 Verdura clients grew both Yukon Golds and Bintjes, a popular Dutch variety. We expect to be expanding our potato growing efforts in 2010 with several new varieties.
